The 9 Virtues of Exceptional Leaders (Haden & Jacobs)

This book was a gift to me from Karl Haden. Each of us has an opportunity and perhaps a responsibility to be a leader. I will read and comment in this blog - so that I learn more effectively how to be a leader - and perhaps to inspire others to lead.

11. Balance

"Balance is a pursuit - not a destination."

Being fully aware in the present. Aware of what? For me - I discovered "balance" when I became aware of the "puzzle analogy" for life - and then amended the analogy to eliminate the picture and the edge pieces.

Organization -  "a time and a place for everything and everything in its time and place" - harmony

Prioritizing - Covey's rubric - "important" and "urgent" -

  • What to delegate or not?
  • What is your responsibility or not?

Work-Life Balance - Nichomachean Ethics

  • Work that is economically necessary
  • Work that is morally obligatory

Work-Work Balance - Work we have to don't but don't like to do - and Work we have to do and want to do?

Encouraging Balance - balance friendly policies and wellness initiatives
