30 January Terrorism and Basic Trends (...persist...)

Acts of terrorism have the impact of changing the way we doing things - likely forever. One need only reflect on air travel in a post September 11, 2001 world.

It became necessary to change in order to survive the "trend."

The society will persist but it must adapt. Drucker uses the "drama" of terrorism to make his point.

The corporate world may be accused of reacting to social media as "terrorism." Why won't it just go away? Who is organizing it? What can be done about it?

Similarly we have treated outsourcing and offshoring of manufacturing as if they were terrorism.

How has training responded to informal learning, offshoring and outsourcing?

What current trends must our industry adapt to?

Ok - so now - 5 years later - Social Learning is acceptable?

What will be acceptable 5 years from now that today we treat like it were "terrorism."

Millenials and their affinity for technology and their alleged lack of communication skills

Older workers that refuse to retire

College debt (or debt in general)

Where does the xAPI fit into this - not terrorism - but perhaps something that we can accept more readily because it is "technology gone social?"

Thanks to a note today from Larry Doiron I chose to revisit this discussion and noted it was 5 years from the last time I commented. So - what do we think about User generated content, Millennials and Older workers now. Will College debt evaporate in 2021? What is the current level of acceptance of xAPI?

We've experienced the "terrorism" of COVID - its impact to learning K12 and Higher Ed is potentially devastating.
