"Waiting for Yesterday" is spot on. I've been reflecting on the word.doc matrix and curious about the Next (Social?) category for Training Cost. Can you elaborate on context of "Free".

I'm very interested in your perspective on this!
Terena,

In July of 2009 I read Chris Anderson's book that was titled "Free." In it, he asserts that sooner or later we will all have to compete with Free. He defines "Free" in the context of the 21st century where it means - free (LInkedIn is free and this ning site is free) and contrasts it to the 20th century context of free where it may mean - "free for a while" or "free with severely limited functionality."

Technology based delivery of training content to large numbers of people on-demand or live has very low incremental costs. At the same time if the content that is being delivered is focused on "what to do" and "how to do it" we are likely going to compete with someone who will be able to offer a "good enough" offering that is similar and is available for free.

The "good news" of all this is that "free" will require us to shift from "telling our clients what to do" (which they will be able to get for free) fto "assuring that our clients receive value from doing what we help them learn how to do" (which will earn higher fees and perhaps performance based fees.)

You may wish to read some of the comments in the Forum on this site that discusses the free topic in more detail.

Excellent, thanks for circling me back to this discussion and resources. I downloaded Anderson's media files to learn more.
