Web 0.0 to Web 5.0 compared to Learning 0.0 to Learning 5.0

Web 0.0 to Web 5.0

What are the relationships at each level to Learning 0.0 to Learning 5.0?

Web 0.0 pre-internet

Web 1.0 to Web 5.0

1.    Early copper internet starts to carry text, audio and grainy video, pushed at computer users - web 1.0. Fiber and faster copper broadband gradually makes all stored content immediately available replacing TV and Radio while computers become mobile

2.    Communities form and connect globally albeit asynchronously, leaving ideas around the web to share and expand - web 2.0

3.    The web becomes more and more instantaneous as text, audio and video are always on, and crude virtual worlds for synchronous co-creative interaction - web 3.0

4.    A fork in the road - part of the world goes into vivid real time virtual spaces as fully rendered, photo realistic avatars, their physical bodies mapped in real time from their physical selves - web 4.0

5.    On the other fork mobile interfaces move from the hand driven mobiles to direct brain (thought) connection - everyone on the planet in real time can instantly communicate with everyone else via thought, prefacing the thought with recipient/s, name, friends, family, country, world and voila - web 5.0

6.    Humanity, connected as one consciousness, takes a leap forward to level 2

Learning 0.0 pre-internet

Learning 1.0 to Learning 5.0

1. Text, video, graphics "dumped" onto the web - Learning 1.0 (read only)

2. Systems are created to allow for analysis and retrieval of content (LMS) - Learning 2.0

3. Collaboration and interaction allow for live or on-demand delivery (e.g. Webex) - Learning 3.0

4. Second Life - Social Communities, Twitter.... (e.g. Performance support plus plus) - Learning 4.0

5. ???Predictive - Learning 5.0????

6. ???boredom for some - freedom for others?????

This article describes 8 ways the Internet has forever changed about running a business. I've summarized the 8 points and parenthetically included how this relates to the training world.

1. Who leads the seller-buyer dance (who leads the trainer-learner dance?)
2. The fixed sales cycle is dead (fixed course outlines are dead?)
3. The discovery stage of the sales cycle is better and easier than ever (understanding leaner needs in easier?)
4. You can no longer manage what outsiders learn about your company (the range of learner knowledge is wider?)
5. Distance no longer matters (classroom is not dead but it better be tech-enabled.)
6. Size of company no longer matters (anyone can use "webex")
7. Two-way communication is required (real communication not simulated!)
8. Digital tools make the tactics of smart marketing and selling far easier to do (we get this one - I think!)

What do you think? Has the internet changed training forever?
