2015 Why You Should Care About The ICD-10 Switch

"The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, usually called the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and is used to report medical diagnoses and inpatient procedures."

The ICD-9 has about 14,000 diagnosis codes and about 3,000 procedure codes, whereas the ICD-10 has closer to 69,000 diagnosis codes and 71,000 procedure codes. While these changes allow for greater accuracy in reporting, it also requires more precision from provider organizations."

  • How may diagnosis and procedure codes exist for learning?
  • Is it easier to create a new one than to assure that we have found the best existing one?
  • Is it worth the precision?
  • Do we want the precision?
  • Is it possible to be taken seriously by others - outside of L&D without being able to prove that our answer is effective?

2016 Massachusetts Medicaid To Expand Addiction Treatment Benefit

"The state plans to increase treatment services and expand access to services, such as:

  • 24-hour community based services,
  • medication assisted treatment,
  • care management, and
  • other recovery support.
  • Capacity will expand by nearly 400 beds in fiscal year . . .

What type of services do we offer in a corporate environment to help an employee improve their performance?

  • 24 hour access to online training and documentation
  • dozens of emails, texts and phone calls every day
  • Coaching from their manager
  • Advice from their peers
  • Help-desk support
  • Freedom to get advice from anywhere they wish

Can we predict with assurance the outcomes of any of these "services?"

Does one's success depend on their ability to assimilate any of what they learn from these services?

Who has the accountability to assure the success of the investments in these services?

2017 How Many Psychiatric Beds Are Enough? Opinions Vary

"The “right” number of beds is dependent on a number of factors. The population demographics are a big issue, as is the availability of other resources such as community-based services, crisis stabilization services, and more. How executive in the field are developing systems with the “right” psychiatric capacity is quite variable."

For performance outcomes in the workplace - how many:

  • Seats are available for any particular performance topic?
  • How many management coaching hours are available (or used effectively?)
  • How many hours of learning are expected (and used effectively?)

What capacity metrics do we have for L&D and how do we assure that the capacity is used effectively?

2018 You Say Subscription-Based Health Care, I Hear Customer Service

“At the heart of the subscription economy is the idea that customers are happier subscribing to the outcomes they want, when they want them, rather than purchasing a product with the burden of ownership.”

What outcomes could education offer on a subscription basis?

Could higher ed evolve to a subscription model? If I earned a degree to a university might there also be available (for an annual fee) - ongoing education that assured I had the knowledge to remain relevant.

How about internal L&D - what could we offer on a subscription basis - besides more content?

2019 Is ‘Harm Reduction’ On Your Radar?

"Harm reductionists advocate for policies, resources, and interventions that meet people where they’re at, support their needs and reduce harms associated with ......... — without judgement, discrimination, or coercion."

Is there a stigma associated with "poor" performance that might influence someone to avoid getting the help they need - training, coaching, consulting?

Is there stigma associated with getting any kind of external help?

How can learners or leaders get they help they need despite the potential of these stigmas?

2023 Performance Wins

Who decides:

  1. What performance is?
  2. When to measure it?
  3. What measures to use?
  4. How accurate the measurement is?
  5. When any of the above need to change?

And who decides who decides?
