2014 From Disruption To Sustainability

"Sustainability – fulfilling your organization’s mission over time – is a challenge even during the best of times. What differences are likely to characterize the perspective of someone between the ages of 65-75 compared to someone between the ages of 55-65? Might these differences have impact to their expectations as employees or learners? How about the way they are viewed by their co-workers and executives?

Are we managing a 60 year-old employee with anticipation that they may be working for another 10-15 years or more?

When we consider the factor of employee retention - do we have data about the likelihood of keeping a 25 year-old employee for 5 years vs the likelihood of keeping a 60 year-old employee for 5 years? Might our benefits packages also need to evolve for older workers? What about our training programs? - How will they evolve to meet the needs of older workers?

2016 Meta-Leadership Instead Of Advocacy

A natural and positive outcome of diversity initiatives might be broader exposure to people who have experiences and opinions that differ from our own.

This may create an opportunity to improve our skills related to decision making (at all levels) because we may know have broader awareness.

Is there a risk that good decisions might be misunderstood, ineffective or short-lived?

Is there a risk that advocacy might be misunderstood, ineffective or short-lived?

What is a leader to do? Who prepares the leaders to do this? What are the choices?
