2014 ‘Smart Justice’

"For the behavioral health field, the interface (or lack of interface) between the justice system, the social service system, and the health care system has been a major contributor to human misery, poor consumer outcomes, and high service costs in all systems."

"...the “smart justice” approach – basically, diverting people with serious mental illness out of jail and into treatment instead."

How could we apply "smart justice" in the situation where an employee is not performing to expectations?

Could we invest to help them - improve or find a new job in our company or find a new job in another company?

Would their poor performance with our company make it difficult for us to rehire them or for them to find employment elsewhere?

Are we (too) concerned about the potential of providing positive reinforcement for negative behavior?

How could we apply "smart justice" in the situation where an employee is not performing to expectations?

2015 U.S. FDA Accepts First Digital Medicine Application; Technology Com...

"...a drug-device for measuring adherence to antipsychotic treatment for adults with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depressive disorder.....an oral tablet that combines .....with an embedded ingestible sensor device that digitally records ingestion. With the consumer’s consent, the sensor communicates with a wearable sensor patch and a medical software application to share information with the consumer’s care team about when . . . "

From the era of wearables to the emerging era of "swallowables!"

How might we consider using technology to assure the effective consumption of the content we "prescribe?"

2016 Are You Prepared To Lose Your CEO?

"Our survey found that 36% of all executives (CEOs, other C-suite executives, and managers/directors) are planning to leave their organization within the next five years."

Does this number seem accurate?

Is it too low to suggest urgency?

The article suggests having a succession plan - and working on recruitment and retention.

What ideas do you have to divert expense applied to succession plans, recruitment and retention - that would be a better use of funds?

2017 Services For Justice-Involved Consumers – Jumping The Chasm Between...

"...there now is parity in health plan coverage for behavioral health treatment services. And, 32 states have expanded Medicaid, so newly-released offenders are more likely to be eligible for coverage. But the statistics remain grim. Statistics from the U.S. Department of Justice show that approximately 20% of . . . "

Frequently I read and hear about the high incidence of mental health and addiction as it relates to prison populations. I can imagine that there are three aspects of this topic:

  1. Those with mental health and addiction issues may commit imprisonable offenses
  2. Once in prison - the conditions might aggravate mental health and addiction issues
  3. Once released from prison - societal pressures might impact mental health and addiction

How do we avoid these three aspects when working with those whose performance does not conform with our expectations?

2018 Size Matters In Executive Compensation

"We found that while there were some variations in compensation by specialty sector, the differences in chief executive officer (CEO) compensation are dependent on an organization’s revenue."

Is there an implied correlation between amount of revenue and quality of outcomes?

If so - would it be advisable to ask those who respond to an RFP to also reveal the size of their company?

We are sensitive to asking a job applicant to reveal salary history - why? Might a similar concern apply with the RFP?

What would you prefer to be the measure of quality? How would you assure a correlation between quality and compensation?

2019 Breaking The Barriers To Organizational Change, Salisbury’s Story

While many may understand the need for change - and even be vocal advocates for change - few - if any - enjoy going through the process of change. There may also be disagreement about how to change, why to change and whether the change is working or happening at the right pace.

What are some common examples of change that do not have these barriers? What can we learn from them about change in general?

2019 How Many Strategies Actually Get Implemented?

Is it important for employees to understand the strategy?

What percent of the time does a strategy succeed?

What percent of the time does a strategy get implemented?

Which of these percents would you expect to be the highest?

How might we provide access to information that will allow knowledge about an individual's performance to be used to help them perform better - independent of their source of employment or source of learning?

2021 Thinking M&A: Ten Tips To Avoid Future Breakups

2023 Keeping The C-Suite

What is the impact when a CEO abruptly leaves an organization?

How can we sustain success independent of when or how the CEO (or other top executive) leaves?

How do we motivate a leader to assure the success of their organization independent?
