2016 For Health Plans, Technology = Improved Consumer Access

"For health plans, the use of technology is being driven, in part, by the need to improve convenient consumer access to services."

Access is an important step in the right direction. The next step might be - outcomes? We know that it costs less - would we pay the same for an online visit as an in person visit?

Is it possible for an online experience to be better than an in person visit? Let me think of the ways:

  1. Less transportation time and cost - both ways
  2. Potential to use waiting time better
  3. Less disruption for the person that might have to accompany us (perhaps needed only for transportation)
  4. Potential to more easily record the interaction for review at a later time (by the patient or doctor)
  5. Potential to have more than one specialist participate (perhaps from a distance) more conveniently
  6. Potential to have shorter more frequent interactions

What else?
Are we doing all of the above with our online programs?

2017 Digital Security Isn’t Where It Needs To Be

  1. Define and streamline leadership, governance, and expectations for health care industry cybersecurity
  2. Increase the security and resilience of medical devices and health IT
  3. Develop the health care workforce capacity necessary to prioritize and ensure cybersecurity awareness and technical capabilities
  4. Increase health care industry readiness through improved cybersecurity awareness and education
  5. Identify mechanisms to protect R&D efforts and intellectual property from attacks or exposure
  6. Improve information sharing of industry threats, risks, and mitigations

Do we have security concerns regarding the programs we deliver? If we move towards performance assurance and performance support are the security concerns likely to increase? Are we ready for this? Do we want to be?

2018 Adaptable Standardization—In Service Of Mission?

"...putting “standardization” into practice is complicated—particularly for service delivery. There are evidence-based clinical practices, best administrative practices, strategic quality issues, performance measurement, and management, not to mention the meta-leadership it takes to bring it all together."

How do we empower those closest to the point of service delivery to adapt as needed while being mindful of outcomes and cost?

How can we be sure that our ideas are going to be effective if we have not yet implemented them for someone else?

If our ideas are successful for someone else does that mean they will be successful for everyone?

What are we to learn from your answers?
