13. Justice

"controversial or politically fraught" -

I wonder how to determine justice - and when and by whom? Is it timeless and independent of winner or loser? I choose to believe it is stronger than compromise - it is an outcome that is not determined by power or majority - it is determined by something more powerful than either. It may in fact be unachievable...

Fairness and Equality -

• Of condition - of opportunity
• Under the law

Sharing Power - "are those with whom power is shared also required or expected to apply fairness and equality?"

Justice as a Duty - "appetites, emotions, and reason"

• "make the call that is most beneficial to the largest number of people" - I wish to understand this more thoroughly

Fairness is a Two-Way Street - "Virtually all leaders are followers" - all followers are virtually leaders

Trust and the Just Organization - "We tend to trust people....because we believe they will tell us the truth and do the right thing for the right reason" 

Justice and the other virtues - the justice of justice i s that ultimately we get what we deserve. If we interpret truth via our appetites and emotions (and without the reason of others being understood) then the "justice" we create may in fact not be the "justice" we sought.
