4. The Nine Virtues: An Overview

"...the goal is to acquire and practice all of these virtues..."

Humility - "the mother of all virtues" - (Covey)
Honesty - "..things you say...impressions you give....not leaving things out..." (do not use truth to harm people.)
Courage - "...the scariest thing of all can be admitting you are wrong." (I recall reading that courage is not being fearless - rather it is taking the correct action despite the fear.)
Perseverance - "...never give in, except to convictions of honor or good sense."
Hope - hope is active optimism fueled by faith - "...the power of hope: to inspire others to see their world, their job, their role, not as it is but as it could be...as it will be."
Charity - "...love...forgiveness...appreciation...generosity...time and attention...kindness...love the organization, the mission and the work."
Balance - "...setting priorities...organized...flexible...work-work balance - more of what we enjoy and less of what we do not enjoy...encourage it in others..."
Wisdom - "...righteous application of knowledge...consistently...knowing what to do"
Justice - "...fairness...judgments...objectivity...having the courage to do the right thing"
