While I agree that the gig economy trend is a testament to those who are not formally educated...I believe that there is a desire to learn from trusted/reliable sources - even when access is available.

In "The Dynamics of Change" published in 1967 it was predicted that by 1987 only 8% of those who wished to work would be employed by someone else. This was to be "accelerated" by the accessibility created by technology! In 2017 "The New Leadership Literacies" is predicting distributed and shape-shifting organizations. Shape-shifting is sustained by gig-worker. COVID-19 has accelerated what was anticipated by this prediction.

Nathan is correct in terms of the essential aspects of IL. I expect IL to be embraced as a preference vs. an alternative. I hope that it will force formal education - including the media and other institutions to adapt with a focus on ethics and values vs. legalities and self-interest.
