I wonder why coaching in sports is so different from coaching in the business world?
In sports - the coaches are "on the field" and accountable. Even the best performers maintain relationships with their coaches throughout their careers -and often -at their own expense.
I have seen this in the entertainment field as well with singers and actors.
Why do we view coaching in the business world as "remedial." short-term, and paid for by others?
Mentoring seems to be either mystical or over-managed in the business world. It is in my mind the most important component of informal/unstructured learning.
To adapt from thewisdom of many others - "When then mentee is ready, the mentor will appear..."
