Talent Management is not new - the term may be new - but the need has always existed.
I wonder what applying the adjective Strategic means?
What is the difference between Talent Management and Strategic Talent Management?
Does "strategic" apply to "talent" or to "talent management?"
Perhaps this would be clearer if it were described as - Strategic Management of Talent or Management of Strategic Talent? One applies to the masses - the other to the subset that impacts strategy.
The 20th century as described well by Toffler and Drucker was the industrial age - characterized by assembly lines and top-down - inside -out management styles.
For a while we have been discussing the information age - characterized by knowledge workers and bottom-up - outside -in management styles. Listening is more important than telling. And perhaps asking is more important than doing.
Is the ability to listen and ask more important than the ability to tell and do?
If or when so - how is that reflected in our actions?
