2014 Financial Risk Is The Cost Of Flexibility

How do Internal training organizations "assume" financial risk related to outcomes? Is it possible or desirable to manage risk over a cross-functional portfolio?

2015 Finding The Opportunities For Behavioral Health In ACOs

Managing behavior is difficult. Is it the proven strength of a new manager? They were likely hired for their potential to be a good manager of behavior? What is the cost of their OJT in this area? How can we reduce this "cost?"

2016 Where Is The Complex Consumer Market In Medicare? In SNPs

Are we prepared (legally and culturally) to vary the amount of training an employee receives - based on performance vs. job description?

Is there a stigma associated with "being in training all the time?"

What if the employee is a manager?

How might we have more impact on OJT? How will IoT, mobile and AR/VR play a role?

Will we adapt to what these tools enable or will these tools be restricted to supporting existing learning models?

2018 The Three New Rules For Innovation

2019 Coming Up With The Next Big Thing

Today - a friend and neighbor with whom I take (6-7 mile) Saturday morning walks (accompanied by his dog) asked me what were the top three causes of disruption (which generally come from outside the industry being disrupted.)

I responded:

  1. Dramatic change in consumer expectation (e.g. expecting things for free)
  2. Technology that impacts our every day life before it impacts our business life (e.g. social media)
  3. Cultural events that impact us nationally or globally (e.g. September 11th)

This is relevant today because the question that came to my mind today after reading the headline of today's article was - "Why are we even interested in coming up with the next big thing?" - from a business perspective?

My answer to this question is - Because it will occur from outside our industry and it will impact our industry in a manner that will force us to respond - and if our response is ineffective - we are at risk of appearing to be less relevant?

What are your thoughts on the topic and on my response?
