The training industry does an excellent job of attracting smart people - people who love to learn, love to teach others and who possess the analytical skills to help others improve.

A difficult challenge for smart people is to realize when they need to improve.

Is it human nature to "preserve" the status quo - even for people who make a living by challenging others to do the opposite?

What notions are we holding onto that others would tell us to let go?

In the summer of 2011 Mark Andreessen wrote an article titled Software is Eating the World - you cannot read it unless you have a paid subscription to the WSJ but if you Google it - you can find many references to it. Or you can call me - I've memorized it -or at least paraphrased it often enough - to be certified in referencing it.

At the end of the article he suggests (or perhaps predicts or maybe edicts) that the next two industries to be "eaten" by software would be healthcare and education. He did not mean telehealth or elearning. He meant something much more significant.

In an Open Minds Discussion - I recently referenced an article that suggested that in the future we would have far fewer hospitals (I drew a parallel to the potential of far fewer universities in the future.) This is the kind of "eating" Marc was referring to - in my opinion. Do you agree? Will we resist - yes at first - and then we will embrace it - and some will claim it was their idea!
