Drucker asserts and I believe it is useful to accept that all businesses will perform far below their optimum performance.  This creates opportunity!

1. Where is the business vulnerable?
2. What are the imbalances?
3. Where are the threats?

Vulnerability is something we are aware of and yet not able to address for valid reasons.

Imbalance occurs when time and resources are not aligned with expected outcomes.

Threats persist because we are not good at addressing them nor do we perceive them to be something that the clients of the business value. Social Media is a threat to many (but not likely to you since you are part of this social community!)

Here are my thoughts regarding the three questions:

• A training organization is vulnerable if it does not help determine corporate strategy.
• An imbalance is created if people are asked to perform tasks for which they do not have the skills or desire to do.
• A threat may occur if this is perceived as the result of ineffective training.

How would you answer these three questions? What actions do your answers inspire?
