Growing up in the 50's and 60's I remember the haunting phrase of some long forgotten advertisement - "Is your child passing their tests but flunking their future?"
Drucker asserts that short-term results and long-term performance are not irreconcilable but they are different.
A lament within the training industry is that "when economic times are difficult that one of the first things to be cut is training expenditure."
Well, I assert that we deserve to be cut if all we are focusing on is long term results without accountability for the results.
As an Industry we need to focus on:
Learning activities that will produce short-term results with immediate measurable payback and long-term performance that is directly correlated to intentional learning activities woven together from the short term activities.
Can you handle this double dose of cognitive dissonance?
