iFive Alliances

Your Revenue Driver

What percentage of your company's products and services are likely to be the same five years from now as they are today? four years? three?...

Is the horizon of obsolescence getting closer or further away. For most industries I would guess it is getting closer.

What is happening to the length of the training development cycle and the ensuing payback period to allow for an effective ROI with the training investment?

The training industry has tradtionally operated in a sequential world. The Kirkpatrick model  and the ADDIE model both reflect sequential thinking.

Is it possible to adapt these models to parallel thinking?

What model do you recommend for learning development, delivery, application, assessment and evaluation that works in parallel with each component?

Parallel thinking is intended to reduce the time and cost associated with product development while also allowing for adaptability to what is being learned during the development process. This is referred to as being agile - which is accurate - but I wonder if we are truly agile - or just working harder and faster?

Drucker asserts that to implement parallel entrepreneurial activities we must utilize:

1. Organized abandonment

2. Systematic, continuing improvement

3. Systematic and continuous exploitation (especially of successes)

4. Systematic innovation

This is quite similar (if not identical) to what is described in Blue Ocean Strategy. It has suggests 4 steps:

1. Determine what to no longer do (abandonment?)

2. Determine what to continue but with less emphasis

3. Determine what to do with increased emphasis

4. Determine what to do that has not been done before (innovation?)

What models have you seen the training industry apply to accelerate development?
