At some point in order to reach our potential we need to break from the old patterns and establish new ones. This is difficult - the old patterns brought us success.

Walking was much more effective than crawling!

Those were east patterns to break because we were being encouraged by others to do so and we had so many examples to follow.

As "trainers" we are used to dealing with resistance from others and helping them establish new patterns. Trainers are often "outside" yet close to the environment of the people they train so they are able to have a different perspective on the needed changes that arise from the vulnerabities of the learner.

As trainers we need external help to see our vulnerabilities

Classroom based training was the only way we knew for so long.

Some still resist online learning and its implementation still reflects a legacy of the classroom.

Some try to "harness" informal learning.

Social learning is finally being discovered and researched but we worry about the role of the training organization with these new methods.

Our vulnerabilities prevent us (psychologically) from understading and leading the way.

How can we break this pattern for ourselves? How do we see these patterns in ourselves?
