This is not a new problem for the training industry but I believe it is one that we continue to struggle with.
Our "job" is to produce results for our learners. This is hard to do.
We can provide a long list of other factors that impact the results and then we shrink from the accountability for producing results.
Will this ever change? Should it? What would it take to make the change happen?

For the past several years I have described the training industry as being comprised of five silos - each with a different reason for its existence.
Pre-K exists to provide a pre-school child-care environment to allow working parents to go to work
K-12 exists to efficiently produce a workforce
Higher Ed (Academia) exists to produce a fully-rounded person (be experiencing a diversity of people, places and thought)
Workplace Learning exists to produce measurable business results (legal profit)
Personal Learning exists to provide human satisfaction
Personal learning is voluntary and thus reveals much about us - how do you choose to learn? What would learning look like in the workplace if it were voluntary? Are we lazy learners? Where are we not lazy about learning? Why?
