The perception is that the boardroom cares only about economic gain and that society disdains this single-minded focus.

Is there a common ground?

Recently I heard an employee state - "My job is to ensure that our customers have the best possible experience while using our company's services. This leads to customer retention which leads to profitability which allows me to keep my job."

WIll learners be satisfied with their training experience if they are unable to see a connection to how it will lead to better job performance?

Does their level of satisfaction differ if they pay for the training vs. having someone else pay for the training?

Does anything besides economic gain really matter when measuring the impact of training?

I have been reading about Elon Musk the past few weeks (actually listening to a book on CD while I drive.) He is mission driven - to build a sustainable colony of human life on Mars. He plans to visit Mars and then go there to live the remainder of his life when he reaches 70,. He expects that his wife and children will remain on Earth.

He is motivated to save the human race.

While most of us are not likely to have such a motivation nor will our CEO's or perhaps political leaders - but - is there a noble motivation and must it be exclusive of profit? Musk's is not exclusive of profit - nor is it for profit only. His net worth far exceeds $10B and about 7 years ago he was nearly bankrupt!
