For example: Sales Prospecting
Certainly this is an important part of the sales process and it is generally recognized that there are other important parts of the sales process as well. A training effort to increase sales may be broad in scope and difficult to determine if it had a measurable impact.
If, however the training organization were to begin a five-year focus on increasing the effectiveness of prospecting activities then it would be implementing this niche strategy.
This would establish a brand (i.e. reputation) and would require a continual effort to be sure to create success around this niche.
