If it does not lead to the "corner office" then let someone else do it.

 

The clerk in the mailroom is not likely going to rise to be CEO of most companies. If you outsource the mailroom then the mailroom clerk could rise to be CEO of the mailroom outsourcing company.

 

This will allow virtually any career to have an unlimited career parth. This sounds like a good motivation to me.

 

What does this mean for the corporate training function?

 

I think it means 1 of 2 things - you choose:

 

1. Restructure the work and responsibility of the function so that it would allow an individual from the training function to become the CEO

 

or

 

2. Continually look for ways to outsource components of the training function

 

I like today's action point: Make your backroom...someone else's front room.
