24 August Threats to Niche Strategies (While it lasts...)

A niche will not likely last forever and is subject to a competitive flanking strategy or to obsolescence of the larger product of which it is a niche.

 

A threat can also occur if the niche expands and attracts competitors.

 

Technology will accelerate and enable competion and expansion. The training organization can respond to the threats by:

 

1. Narrowing and deepening the niche with its own use of technolgy

2. Appealing to a segment that is not easily able to access the technology

3. Abandon the niche
