Your Revenue Driver

Is it important for the employees to believe in the legitimacy of the purpose of their employer?

What is the driving organizational source of the legitimacy? Is it the social purpose of the company? Is it the obligation to stockowners to return a profit? Is it to provide value to customers? Clearly all of these are important and need to be delivered - and clearly there is room for interpretation and conflict between these sources.

What is the organizational legitimacy of the corporate training department?

Is it to return ROI for training initiatives?

Is it to help employees gain pay raises and a better life style (including working conditions?)

Is it to ensure the best possible customer experience?

How would your employees and customers (learners) descibe the legitimacy of the corporate training function?

I spoke today (March 3, 2016) with Adam Wexler and he reminded me of how the legitimacy of the music industry got challenged and disrupted by technology (the internet) and a population that no longer supported the legitimacy of what it took to get music published and distributed.

Are we facing the same challenge to legitimacy related to learning? I think the challenge is larger and has been with us longer. What is sustaining the legitimacy of academia and formal education? What do you think will be legitimate 10, 20 or 30 years from now?
