What if there were a way to increase performance in a predictable and sustainable fashion that eliminated or drastically reduced the need for training?

Where would this idea come from if it did exist? Would the training department be the one to propose it?

The result might mean that the training department made a vital contribution to the corporation while simultaneously eliminating or reducing the need to have a training department. What reward would be valued by the training departnment for makring this contribution?

How does the training function balance the need to create self-sufficient employees with the need for its own survival?

(side note: What has the GPS done to the Map industry?)

As humans - for a while - and for some too long - and for others - not long enough - we pretend and or wish we are going to liver forever. At some point we accept the inevitable - to some it may bring intolerable anguish - to others quiet acceptance - and to others - peace.

I read today (12/25/13) that only 65 of the businesses that were listed on the NYSE in 1925 still exist today as an independent entity (the others have been acquired or dissolved) - so businesses do not live forever - a known fact but one which we have not learned how to accept.
