How important is it for the training department to be run by a training professional? Which is more important to the success of the department - the certification of its head as a learning professional or as a business professional?
Here are some of Drucker's rules for family owned businesses (which may be a fair analogy for training departments:)
1. Competence and effort is more important than relationship
2. It is important to have an "outsider" near the top
3. Seek to increase the number of non-family members in key roles
