Why?
It's amusing how kids can mildly irritate adults with the persistence of their "why's." As an adult trainer I continue to learn from the "naive" questions from business people who were unafraid to ask "why."
Yes, it could expose their ignorance but it could also challenge the trainer's tendency to evolve a solution into a convenience and perhaps - less of a solution.
Teaching how - might get the job done quickly but teaching why is more likely to lead to assimilation, relevance and sustained success. What do you think?
Who, what, when, where, why and how? All of these are important but why is my favorite!
