Your Revenue Driver

The Knowledge Era will create an interesting dilemma. Traditionally the reward (increased earning capacity and responsibility) has been via advancement into management.

Drucker asserts that there will be fewer management positions. And I’ll add that because of the depth of the knowledge of the individual it will become difficult to replace them. Perhaps this will lead to “playing managers?” These individuals will be asked to take on management responsibility and may also retain some requirement to maintain their technical expertise.

This would lead to increased business acumen amongst the training organization. In fact, we see this already as individuals leave the corporate environment and form their own consultancies and training companies.  This requires the mutual development of business and technical capability.

How might this be structured and rewarded within the corporate environment?
