The strength of the industrial era and the foundation of much of the economic growth of the 20th century was based on a defined hierarchy within a regulated structure.

 

Significant innovations did occur outside of that structure. Certainly in the 21st century we are seeing this innovation with ideas such as open-source software, social media and collaboration.

 

We are now seeing  the concept of an "unconference" emerge in the learning world. When implemented effectively it fosters the exchange of ideas in a manner that allows the corporate training world to accelerate innovation. Here is a link to a separate discussion on that topic in this site:
