Let's use weight loss as a transitional example from health to learning:
A patient agrees to lose 10 pounds over the next year. To monitor progress we offer the patient three choices:
- a quarterly in-office appointment to determine current weight;
- a self-reporting system that requires them to call/email or text us with their weight or to enter it via a portal
- an automated scale which electronically transmits the patient's weight to the portal
A professional monitors the reporting and provides feedback and offers intervention
Which choice would you prefer if you were the professional being evaluated on outcomes?
Which choice would you prefer if you were the person wishing to lose weight?
How would you alter this process (and your preferences) if these questions were related to work performance?
