Event Description

How important is it to one's reputation to be able to support their assertions with objective research?

Does the use of objective research separate the professional from the amateur?

Here's recent poll for the training industry on this topic.

How much research is enough?

Is objective research a "key" to the boardroom?

These comments came to me via email:

-Investors don't do logical decision making. In public -though- they utter nice decision making models that are a lipstick on a pig. Thus, the source of research is secondary issue for them. It is often overridden by other factors. It is more important that the message resonates with investor's experience and true desires. More often than not it is humanly far from objective criteria and research based info.

-The willingness to share information as well as openly discuss the methods and results often differentiate truth creators from bullshitires. People, who have something to hide, do it consistently.

-A professional works for money. An amateur works for the subject matter. This very fact confirms greater chances to meet a bullshitier among professionals. There are a lot of professionals serving to ugly investor's motivations to be sure. The hype high of the Gartner's Curve is the indirect measure for this phenomenon.

-How much research is enough depends on the mandate and on the addressee's sophistication. In Georgia a lot of resources are thrown onto marketing research. All other aspects are just patched to make general public believe they are seriously addressed. I found, the research profile is low in many cases.

-I personally think, overall, there is not enough research here. There is a lot of money in R&D that is traded as justification, but not in research.
