A little about Businesswomen in Atlanta
We all live and work in Atlanta; Metropolitan Atlanta is the ninth largest area in the country, inhabited by approximately 5.5 million people. Like most areas in the Sun Belt, the Atlanta region has seen explosive growth in the past decade, adding more than 1.13 million residents between 2000 and 2008. It is the second-fastest growing area of the United States.
Major employers include General Motors, Kia, Delta Airlines, AirTran Airways, Ford Motor Company, CNN, TNT, The Weather Channel, Cox Enterprises, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Cox Radio, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Emory University, and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Several major national and international companies are headquartered in Atlanta or its nearby suburbs, including the Coca-Cola Company, Home Depot, United Parcel Service, AT&T Mobility, Newell Rubbermaid, Arby's, Chick-fil-A, Earthlink, Equifax, Gentiva Health Services, Georgia-Pacific, Oxford Industries, RaceTrac Petroleum, Southern Company, SunTrust Banks, Mirant, Waffle House, NCR Corporation, and First Data.
The size and diversity of this marketplace is impressive and it will likely always remain a vibrant center for business.
What percentage of people living in Georgia are women? About 50%
What percentage of companies in Georgia are owned by women? About 30%
What of all these % is the number of fun, intelligent, strong, ambitious businesswomen?
We come from all industries and we need to network with other similar minded businesswomen so we can all contribute, learn, motivate and inspire each other AND promote women in business here in Atlanta.
