I have thought for many years that a culture/society may be distinguished by two factors:

Transportation

Communication

Our society's move from an agricultural society to an industrial society was (caused, accompanied, accelerated) by the emergence of railroads - "The railroad mastered distance..."

Drucker asserts that e-Commerce "eliminates it."

The internet has also had an impact on communication.

Will the internet "eliminate" learning as we knew it?

Many of you have heard my GPS story- does the GPS have the potential to eliminate "getting directions" as we knew it?

"Selling is no longer tied to production but to distribution."

We have known this in retail for years (e.g. supermarkets, hardware stores)

We are learning this with utilities (e.g. deregulation of Gas Providers in Georgia)

The LMS providers and SCORM "promised" something like this with learning.

What would prevent this from occurring with learning?
