A few years ago I was working with a client that was lamenting about the poor attendance at a "mandatory" training session that was offered every Friday. I asked if there was any correlation between learner job performance and attendance. When I learned that the correlation was not being tracked I asked what was the perception regarding the correlation. The perception was that there was no correlation.

What would you recommend be done with the time that was being invested in this program?

Well, the first thing I would do is to learn why it was a mandetory training session... if it is mandetory there must be a driving force making it so... mandetory training is usually related to some kind of required skill(s) or knowledge that directly impacts a result or outcome of some sort... (if no correlation- high likelihood participants can detect)

Second thing I would do...Never do "mandetory" training on Friday, especially if it is unclear to participants as to why they are attending the training...

the time that was invested in the program...thank employees for attending and cease delivering the program... unless there is some way to salvage the content for another program...
