2014 Getting Donations From The Next Generation

"...demographics drive marketing – even charitable marketing – and the question coming up now is how charitable organizations can continue their success with the next generation – the millennial generation."

  • "Don’t call it a “donation.” Call it an investment
  • Make the results transparent – Millennials don’t trust “charities”
  • Provide an avenue for “participation” – no matter how fleeting"

Might this be worth considering from a learning perspective as well? How can we change how we operate (not just use different words so that:)

  • Learning is an investment (that may provide returns after the person leaves our employment)
  • The business results of investing in learning are the transparencies to consider
  • Beyond role plays - how about determining the actual content, the delivery and the assessment of outcomes - being done by the learner for other learners - in the moment - not only as advisors.

2015 Dual Eligible Demonstrations – What States Are Moving Ahead?

"In 2012, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) began approving state dual eligible demonstration projects, with the first demonstration launching in July 2013 (see Where Are The Dual Eligible Demonstration Projects?). Last summer, CMS announced that states with dual eligible demonstrations would have the opportunity to extend the demonstrations for two years citing concerns with state budgetary cycles and lack of evaluation data. Given the extension, where are states with their dual demonstration?"

In addition to pondering what might we learn from dual -eligibility (two funding sources) it is intriguing to ponder of designing a solution with a mindset that the outcomes will be naturally and unalterably measured? Kind of like the "GPS." http://ifivealliances.ning.com/profiles/blogs/social-learning-truth...

2016 Make M&A Work For Your Organization

"How often are mergers and acquisitions successful? Short answer, not often. In recent years, studies have shown mergers to have a high failure rate. A KPMG study found that mergers failed between 50% and 85% of the time, and failed to increase shareholder returns 83% of the time (see Why Mergers Fail). A Harvard Business Review report found that failure rate to be even higher, with mergers failing 70% to 90% of the time (see Why Do Up To 90% Of Mergers And Acquisitions Fail?)."

Those ranges seem wide to me. And yet - what should we expect the success rate to be?

Is employment a form of M&A - what percent of employment relationships succeed?

"Do your homework before you move forward with a merger.... outlined several key issues to keep an eye on:"

  • "Lack of information for due diligence
  • Cultural values
  • Board involvement
  • Leadership involvement"

With each of these regarding employment - where could we commit to do even a better job in the future?

2017 Changes Proposed For PPACA Via HHS Rule Change On CSR Payments &...

"... ending cost-sharing reduction (CSR) payments to health insurers offering individual plans through ..... The same day..... consider eliminating insurance rules ...... Although both events affect the sustainability of the ,,,,, the executive order is not directly related to the HHS elimination of the CSR payments.."

Leadership is complex and complicated. Which of the following are important to understand as change occurs?

  1. The way things were designed to work before the change?
  2. The way things are actually working?
  3. The way things will be designed to work with the change?
  4. How to transition from the previous way to the new way if the old way was "working" for you?

How would you add or change this list of "important" items?

How do we prepare ourselves, our leaders, our employees and our community to be effective with change?

2018 How Consumer Engagement Is Reshaping Service Delivery

"...consumer are “ready, willing, and able” and payers are on board. But, getting clinical professionals to embrace consumer engagement technologies is the challenge that needs to be met for success—Ms. Wesloh explained that most clinicians are all for it philosophically, but resist when it’s time to adopt, they struggle to make the shift away from traditional treatment models."

Where have we seen this and continue to see it?

  1. Self-paced training as augmentation to classroom training
  2. Distance learning as an alternative to on-site learning
  3. elearning as an alternative to the in person classroom
  4. social learning as an alternative to elearning

What will we "object" to next - and why?

2019 Are You Ready For M&A?

What is the best way to be ready for disruption?

  1. Ignore the potential - and deal with it - if it happens
  2. Distance yourself from it - it will go away - and everything will be fine once the dust settles
  3. Be prepared

What is our role in preparing ourselves, our department, our company, our clients and our partners for M&A?

Are we strategic, reactionary or not involved?
